Skolars play play their penultimate home game of the season at New River this Saturday when they entertain current league leaders, and promotion favourites, Swinton Lions. Kick-off is at the slighly later time of 4.00pm.
Swinton have had a very impressive season, winning 12 of the 15 games played to date and they currently hold a five point lead at the top over second place Doncaster, who have played one game more.
Earlier this season Skolars put in a spirited diplay at the Willows, only losing by 8 points and gaining their first point of the season. Since then Skolars have gone on to chalk up another 16 points and record an impressive run of fours consecutive home victories and Joe Mbu will be keen to see that excellent home form continue.
Before the main match Rugby League fans can enjoy an RLC Premier division fixture on the main pitch between Skolars ‘A’ team and West London Sharks. Skolars ‘A’ only came into the league five weeks ago, following the withdrawal of Hainault Bulldogs, but have acquitted themselves well with some strong performances and impressive results, including a 18-32 away win at the Sharks three weeks ago.

Kult & Punk: St Pauli held to a draw in Frankfurt
Kult & Punk: St Pauli draw in Frankfurt, thanks again to Andy James for filling in for the boys, who remaind in Hamburg.
Eintracht Frankfurt again came from behind in the 2. Bundesliga's big match on Monday evening as Alex Meier struck the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to fellow relegated side FC St. Pauli.
With the crowd limited to just 19,000 owing to Frankfurt fans' misdemeanours at the end of last season, an unusually hollow Commerzbank Arena crowd watched Fin Bartels give the visitors the lead in a first half of which both sides enjoyed a share. Eintracht then turned it up a gear in the second period and eventually made their pressure count thanks to Meier's late volley.
Chances for both
Following an error-laden opening 20 minutes, first real chance eventually materialised as Marius Ebbers beat Eintracht keeper Thomas Kessler to a loose ball in the box and laid off for Sebastian Schachten. He sent a perfectly-weighted ball into the centre, but Bartels' header was misdirected the over the bar.
At the other end Frankfurt continued to dictate the tempo and almost went in front when Caio curled a speculative side-footer towards the right corner, but St. Pauli custodian Philipp Tschauner rose brilliantly to tip the ball around the post at full stretch.
Offside trap beaten
Another lean spell ensued, but slowly Andre Schubert's away side began to enjoy their own spell of dominance. Unlike Frankfurt, they made the most of it on 38 minutes. A clipped ball towards the edge of the box by Deniz Naki was masterfully headed on by Ebbers to Fabian Boll, who just managed to stay onside to cushion the ball across for Bartels to shift into the empty net.
Erwin Hoffer was denied a swift equaliser by the offside flag minutes after the restart, but it was a sign of things to come as the hosts valiantly fought to get back into the game. Constant Djakpa sent in a superb cross from the right approaching the hour which Meier rose well to power goalwards, but once again Tschauner stretched to tip over.
Meier saves the day
Undeterred, the Eagles continued to prey on the St. Pauli defence and eventually got their reward on 78 minutes. After leading the comeback against Fürth last week, Meier was again the hero for Frankfurt, striking a fine volley into the bottom-left corner after Boll's headed clearance fell kindly on the edge of the box.
Jan Philipp Kalla almost snatched it for Pauli towards the end with a low strike that scraped the upright, but it would have been harsh on the home side, who pressed for a winner until referee Thorsten Kinhöfer's final whistle left both sides plus a point.

Kult & Punk: On the Boll, St Pauli, the opening weekend starts with victory.
Kult & Punk are back with a double celebration, no make that a triple. First the erection of the brand new darts board in Zoe's Bar, a victory on the opening day of the season and Football is back.
FC St. Pauli 2 FC Ingolstadt 0
FC St. Pauli began life back in the second flight with a solid home-from-home victory over FC Ingolstadt. Two second-half goals from Fabian Boll earned coach Andre Schubert's men the points in an entertaining contest against their Bavarian visitors
St. Pauli kicked off their home programme for 2011-12 at the Stadion an der Lohnmühle in Lübeck, serving out the one-match ban from their beloved Millerntor imposed after a cup of beer was thrown onto the pitch in the game against Schalke last April.
Evenly-balanced first half
With three new signings included in Schubert's starting line-up - keeper Philipp Schauner, central defender Lasse Sobiech and right back Sebastian Schachten - the nominal hosts carved out the first opportunity of note in the tenth minute, Charles Takyi's control letting him down in a promising breakaway situation. At the other end, a shot from Moritz Hartmann hit the outside of the net a minute later.
St. Pauli upped the pressure in the phase that followed, but a couple of half-chances from distance aside they were finding it hard to break down a compact Ingolstadt defence. By the half-hour mark the balance of the contest had pretty much evened out and the first half was drifting towards a fairly uneventful conclusion when FCI right back Andreas Görlitz let loose a powerful shot from some 18 metres out, which had debutant goalie Tschauner stretching to turn round the post.
Boll at the double
Ingolstadt picked up where they had left off right at the start of the second 45, Caiuby running at pace towards the St. Pauli area before pulling another fine save out of Tschauner. St. Pauli's response was not long in coming though. In the 51st minute, Fabian Boll teed up a free kick, having himself been hauled down a couple of metres outside the box, and drilled it straight and true into the corner past Ingolstadt keeper Sascha Kirschstein.
The stage was set for a period of end-to-end action, St. Pauli having a couple of pots on goal before Leonhard Haas set up Stefan Leitl on the break, only for the striker to see his close-range effort foiled by the impressive Tschauner (62'). St. Pauli survived a goalmouth scramble soon after as Ingolstadt pressed, and in the 69th minute they struck again. A cross into the middle was cleared by Marino Biliskov straight to the feet of Boll, who clinically fired his own second into the far corner.
Points in the bag
To their credit, Ingolstadt continued to push for the goal that would at least give them a foothold back in the contest, but St. Pauli were giving nothing away in this one and over the piece finished worthy winners, having set the tone for long stretches of the match.
Mitchell on revenge mission: Dagenham lightweight keen to avenge Katsidis defeat
We would like to thank our friends at SkySports News for supplying the report and photo. We hope to get some exclusive comment from Kevin regarding future fights.
Kevin Mitchell is targeting a long-awaited rematch with Michael Katsidis following his thrilling domestic triumph over John Murray at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Saturday night.
The Dagenham lightweight stopped the previously unbeaten Mancunian in the eighth round to breathe new life into a career which stalled following his failed world title challenge against Katsidis at Upton Park last May.
Mitchell's duel with Murray was his first fight since that defeat and he still feels he has a score to settle with the Australian, who went on to lose his next two fights, before focusing on a world title again.
"My dream is back on track," said Mitchell. "The dream I've always had since I was a kid is back on track so I'm happy.
"I want the rematch with Katsidis. I want closure. I'd definitely want to go back to Upton Park for it, they are waiting for me there."
Recovery
Problems outside the ring affected the 26-year-old's training for that interim WBO title tilt and the fall-out saw him spend the following two months on "a proper bender".
However, an intervention by his estranged parents and the support of his local community turned Mitchell's life around.
"The stresses I was going through and the strain of life was leading me into the pub every night," he revealed.
"I was in the pub from Monday to Sunday, Monday to Sunday. I've not been in the pub now for over a year.
"My local pub is the Cross Keys, it's a Dagenham boozer where all my pals drink, we've all grown up together, everyone's in this pub. I've not been in there for a whole year and every one of them turned up tonight.
"They are happy that I've kept out the boozer.
"I'm living with my mum and she's been driving me bonkers. But I sleep, rest, I see my kids Monday, Tuesday and Friday overnight. That's what makes me happy, my two boys. When you're happy you train happily.
"My mum and dad haven't been together since I was four and for them to come into the pub together, when I was slouched in the boozer...they dragged me out of there where all my pals were and they took me home and said 'what are you playing at? Sort your life out'.
"I was on a proper bender after the Katsidis fight. So then I was effectively barred and also I didn't want my mum and dad coming into the pub and embarrassing me again!"
Respect
Relations between Mitchell and Murray were cool rather than cordial in the build-up as both men remained poker-faced but the former had nothing but praise for a friend he holds in high regard.
He said: "John Murray's a brilliant fighter, unbelievable - what a brilliant fella. He could have taken a world title fight but he took me on.
"I'll win the world title and give John his world title shot."

Speedway: Diamonds mauled by the Bears.
Redcar Bears v Newcastle Diamonds: Thu 7 Jul 2011: South Tees Motor Park
Premier League By Lawrence Heppell
The Newcastle Sapphire Engineering Diamonds were handed two late body blows prior to last night's local derby at the South Tees Motor Park against the hosts, the Redcar Bears.
Late afternoon came the news Teesside expert Stuart Robson was not going to achieve fitness for the event following a bad smash at Workington on Saturday whilst Claes Nedermark blew up an engine on the grand parade warm-up lap.
Despite the morale-sapping events, and a delay whilst the ambulance had to deal with a situation at the track, the Diamonds got off to a surprisingly good start with guest rider David Howe from Scunthorpe taking the honours, backed admirably by Derek Sneddon who held out the lively Matej Kus in the 1-5.
Redcar's Peter Juul is developing into a force to be reckoned with and took the reserve race with ease although again Kyle Newman had to work hard all race to keep Robert Branford back in third place in the Bears' 4-2.
Following a referee call back to Heat Three Jason Lyons and Gary Havelock took the Bears in front with an easy 5-1, as Sneddon just couldn't reproduce his first race form, whilst the off-the-pace Jason King retired when at the back with the score at 10-8.
Following a shared heat in the fourth, Newcastle's form took a rapid dip over the next two races with the veteran pairing of Lyons and Havelock hammering five past Newcastle's Heat One maximum men, and Kus and former Diamond Lubos Tomicek doing likewise over Nedermark and Newman in the sixth to force the home lead to a decisive 23-13.
Ten points down and Newcastle's stand-in team manager, Andrew Dalby made his first tactical move by placing Howe on a tactical ride for double points in Heat Seven, but his partner King exceeded the two-minute ruling and was placed on a 15 metre handicap as his forfeit but again failed to make the distance, retiring from the heat on the last lap.
Howe's six points at least closed the gap a little to 26-19, but a mechanical gremlin sent Richie Worrall to the back in the eighth, handing a home 4-2 to the Bears who moved into a 9-point lead.
Unfortunately Newcastle's mid-match slump continued beyond the interval with home maximums flooding in from Heats Nine and 10 allowing manager Dalby to use his second and final tactical move.
Sneddon was the man on double points in Heat 11, and with the score at 40-23, six were desperately needed, but his last place for zero did nothing to help in the home 4-2 as Redcar began their romp to an inevitable big win.
Over the final four races Newcastle's resistance was minimal as they collapsed to one of their heaviest defeats on Teesside shale in a very long time.
But the final sting in the tail was with already having Mark Lemon and Robson on the injury list, the paramedic was called to take a look at King's recovering knee injured last August at Glasgow - and on that point the club will have to sweat it out before their home match on Sunday against the tough Edinburgh Monarchs.

Rugby League: London Skolars Action This Weekend, come on down.
For the first time this season Skolars first team will play a home Co-operative Championship fixture on a Saturday at New River, when they take on South Wales Scorpions tomorrow – kick off 2.30pm. Skolars will be looking for a third consecutive home win, which would close the gap between themselves and their visitors to only two points.
Skolars ‘A’ team, who now compete in the RLC Premier division, travel to Croydon on Saturday to face South London Storm. The ‘A’s made their league debut last Saturday and came away from Eastern Rhinos with a creditable 30-30 draw. Kick-off for this fixture is 2.30pm.
Also in action on Saturday are Skolars 18′s and 16′s, who both play home fixtures at New River in the morning. The 18′s face Hainault whilst the 16′s come up against Eastern Rhinos. The 14′s were also due to play at home against the Rhinos 14′s but unfortunately this game has been cancelled as the opposition were unable to travel.
So, it’s an action packed Saturday ahead with no less than four Skolars teams looking for victory. To wet your appetite the Olympic bar at New River will be running the very popular £1 a pint (Carlsberg) promotion tomorrow.
Last weekends match report below
Doncaster RLFC 40 London Skolars 22
Skolars lost out on a chance to maintain their move upwards towards the play-off spots, although it was not until midway through the second half that the Dons pulled away.
Neither side’s kicking on the sixth tackle was incisive, and both full-backs were able to return the ball with relative ease throughout the game.
Skolars’ James Anthony also made some good runs coming into the attacking line, his first run breaking the defence 40 metres out to open the scoring. Dons went into the lead with a break down the left wing, Nev Morrison avoiding Michael’s Brown’s grasp to ground the ball just before being dragged into touch.
Skolars then gave away two penalties in quick succession, one for offside, one for foul play and after Jack Ely had gone close early in the tackle count, he then barged through on the sixth tackle to put Dons further ahead. Skolars then pulled one back when Sam Gee slipped a pass to debutante Mourad Kriouache to score under the posts.
The Dons took advantage of another penalty, with Craig Robinson unstoppable from 10 metres out. They nearly added a fourth try on the final hooter, Morrison being offside from a chip kick.
Skolars forced a goal line drop out at the start of the second half, Sam Gee being held up on the sixth tackle, but they forced another drop out from the next set of six, from which David Williams powered over the tryline.
Doncaster re-asserted themselves with a try from Dom Dee after some good passing between Scott Spaven and Craig Fawcett. Jack Ely was held up soon afterwards and then set up the next try moving the ball out to Nev Morrison to go over in the corner for his second try. The Dons scored again in the next set of six through Chris Spurr with Skolars seemingly unable to stop the flow. Whilst there was no drama of the type that marred the game at New River, there was certainly some needle between the sides, although that’s probably due to the importance of the game to both sides as the season reaches a critical stage.
When Skolars did get hold of the ball they advanced well, but Don’s defence forced Ade Adebisi into the corner flag. Chris Spurr then broke through the defence and offloaded to Spaven, who was stopped just short of the line, but was able to get the ball out of the tackle with the supporting Carl Hughes picking the ball up a metre from the line for an easy try.
Skolars had a consolation try when Dylan Skee’s break put Ben Bolger over on the left flank, but that was little comfort to Joe Mbu, who was “very disappointed not to have picked up at least a bonus point after being in contention for most of the game.”
Women's World Cup, Report: Ocampo long shot frustrates England
Thank you to our friends at UEFA.com, for providing the match report and apologises for the delay in posting. England play their second game of the tournament this evening, against New Zealand – 5.15pm live on Eurosport..
England opened their FIFA Women's World Cup campaign with a point after Monica Ocampo's stunning strike cancelled out Fara Williams's first-half header in Wolfsburg.
England's FIFA Women's World Cup campaign got off to a frustrating start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mexico after Fara Williams's first-half header was cancelled out by Monica Ocampo's delightful strike.
England made a strong start to the Group B match and might have taken the lead on 20 minutes when Karen Carney's shot was deflected wide. The opening goal was not long in coming, however, as from the ensuing corner, Williams rose above Nayeli Rangel to head in. The lively Williams might have scored again seven minutes later when she struck a curling shot from outside the area which was well saved by Cecilia Santiago.
Though against the run of play, Mexico's 33rd-minute equaliser was worthy of the World Cup stage, Ocampo cutting inside before unleashing a dipping effort past Karen Bardsley from 30 metres. Despite the setback, England continued to carve out opportunities, Eniola Aluko driving wide moments after Mexico's leveller and missing an open goal on 53 minutes, failing to connect with the ball during a goalmouth melee.
As the match wore on Mexico looked the likelier scorers, with Stephany Mayor's goal-bound shot kept out by Ellen White's brave block in added time. The draw leaves England and Mexico two points behind section leaders Japan, who opened their tournament with a 2-1 defeat of New Zealand, England's next opponents on 1 July, when Mexico meet Japan
