The boys are going to try and forget about the weekend - what weekend? To take their minds of the Dresden debacle they are preparing for the May Day celebrations today.
Dynamo Dresden 1-0 FC St. Pauli
St. Pauli's hopes of a shot at the play-offs and a first-time return to the top flight were dealt a massive blow as they fell to a single-goal defeat at Dresden. The result leaves the Hamburg club still on 59 points and drops them to fifth in the table, now two behind both Düsseldorf and Paderborn with just one game left to play.
Koch with the match-winner
Both sides hit the ground running, with Dresden's early long-ball strategy keeping the guest defence on their toes. St. Pauli missed a great chance to go in front midway through the first half when Sebastian Schachten pulled an excellent reflex save out of home keeper Benjamin Kirsten from close range following a corner. Two minutes later, the visitors had a let-off from a corner at their own end, custodian Philipp Tschauner scraping Filip Trojan's inswinger off the line with the aid of the post.
That was as close as either side came in a lively first half and the action continued in the same vein after the restart. Nine minutes in, Dresden broke the deadlock when Sebastian Schuppen's fine ball in from the left picked out the unmarked Robert Koch, who duly finished the job from a few metres out. St. Pauli powered forward in search of the leveller and Max Kruse brilliantly laid on a chance for Marius Ebbers in the 66th minute, the striker curling his shot inches wide. The men from Hamburg maintained the one-way traffic through to the finish, but the closest they came to at least salvaging a point was with eight minutes to go, when sub Kevin Schindler's header pulled another brilliant save out of Kirsten.
