Barking Abbey 68 London Westside 49
Despite a slow start, Barking Abbey came out on top with a 68-49 victory over London Westside II on Saturday evening in VCars.co.uk Division 4 action.
The game was tied at 13 after the opening period, but a 23-6 second quarter gave BA a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way.
“We got there in the end,” said head coach Frank Holloway after the game. “We regrouped in the second quarter and knuckled down defensively to get the win.”
Nial Hegarty led BA with 16 points, Robinson Idehen added 12 on 6/8 shooting, whilst Roy Downey had an 11 point, 10 assist double double.
BA, who now stand at 9-1 atop of the South East conference, will now take on Ware Rebels on January 26 at home (4.00pm tip).
U19's hammer Canterbury
Barking Abbey had a blistering start to 2013 in the EB/BCS Under-19 Premier League, with a 91-15 rout over Canterbury High School on Wednesday afternoon.
BA never trailed, holding Canterbury to just 3 points in both the third and fourth quarters, in what was a total team effort.
“I thought we played very well defensively, we also shared the ball very well,” said head coach Frank Holloway after the game. “We had 26 assists for the night, any time you have that many assists…we just shared the ball and made each other better.”
Josh Steel had 18 points, Niall Hegarty and Robinson Idehen 13 each, whilst David Akibo added 10. Nine games into the season, BA stand at 7-2, at the top of Group 3.
The team will look to better their record on Wednesday 23rd January when they face Oaklands away.
