Redbridge Elite 5 Castle United 3
The Ilford & District League Cup Final was played out at Wadham Lodge, Walthamstow last night. Castle United, undefeated in the league, took on Redbridge Elite lying 3rd in the table after a recent run of great form. The odds were stacked in Castle's favour, although Redbridge had beaten them in another cup Semi Final and their league meetings had been close.
Redbridge started the brightest and had steamed into a 3-0 lead. Leon Joseph opened the scoring for Elite early in the match. Leon Young made it 2-0 as he followed up on Asher Johnson saved penalty and Daniel Tesphay put Elite 3-0 up. Redbridge had controlled the game, with all Castle attacks been dealt with and cleared. As the first half wore on Castle started to dominate the match. Just before half time they converted a penalty to take them into the interval trailing 3-1.
The second half continued as much as the first half ended. Redbridge were put under a lot of pressure, and a beautiful free kick left the keeper with no chance and the gap was closed to 3-2. Redbridge then soaked up attack after attack from Castle. A wonder Vincent Edwards free kick increased their lead to 4-2. The goal settled Redbridge nerves, and Asher Johnson put the Final beyond doubt as he rounded the keeper and calmly slotted the ball home, 5-2. With the Redbridge Elite name being engraved onto the cup, Castle United managed to sneak a consolation near to full time.
Only founded since 2006, the Redbridge Elite Management and players have done an amazing job and long may it continue. Congratulations Lads
