Sol y Futbol: Lanzarote stay top, after an away win at Laguna

Only 2 teams had taking points from CD Laguna at home this season. Echeday second half goal ensured that Los Rojillos would leave with maximum points and remain top of the league.


Both teams started the game quickly. Arazola shot close from the edge of the area for the hosts. Lanzarotes response was instant as Guayo shot rebounds off the post.

As the game went on Lanzarote became more dominant. A fantastic move from Tonito and Rosmen ended with the shot sailing over the bar, the move deserved a better finish.

The pressure mounted on Laguna and it was a surprise to many, that the teams went to the interval 0-0. CD Laguna started the 2nd half on the attack. Paul was unlucky not to put the home side in front, but fantastic defending from Ruyman kept the score level.

After 52 minutes the deadlock was broken. After Lagunas ‘keeper spilled a shot. Echeday was ready to break the dead lock and put Los Rojillos 1-0 in front.

The home side then took the upper hand. They mounted attack after attack on the Lanzarote goal. Excellent defending, especially from Ruyman. denied Laguna a deserved equaliser.

Seven minutes of ‘Fergie Time’ were added and the attacks continued but Lanzarote stood firm to take all 3 points. Next weekend UD Lanzarote entertain CD Mensajero
