Kult & Punk: St Pauli kick off Bundesliga 2 2012/2013

That James is a good lad. No sooner had we posted last weeks game, he has found the match report for Match Day 1. As mentioned in the previous post, Kult and Punk (pictured - not really) are back next week. Wednesday, if not sooner. This will be the 4th season that we have followed St Pauli, here is looking at a successful season.

Erzgebirge Aue 0-0 FC St. Pauli

Ergebirge Aue and FC St. Pauli started their Bundesliga 2 campaigns with a point after a tight encounter ended goalless.

St. Pauli were forced onto the back foot early on, although chances were few and far between. The home side were unable to build up any momentum and their two best chances both came from set-piece situations. Vlad Munteanu first curled a free-kick onto the roof of the net in the 33rd minute before bending another effort over from 25 yards. St. Pauli's first attempt on goal arrived a minute before the interval when Florian Bruns' powerful effort from 20 yards was parried by a cautious Aue goalkeeper Martin Männel

Männel magic

Marius Ebbers, who has scored 98 goals in Bundesliga 2, went close to his 99th when he reached Bruns' cross at the far post, but his header was pushed over instinctively by Männel, who repeated his heroics to deny Fabian Boll from the resulting corner. Aue went the closest to breaking the deadlock in the 79th minute when Jakub Sylvestr cut in from the left and poked his shot against the inside of the far post, but a late flurry from the home side went unrewarded as the spoils were shared as the sun set over the Sparkasse-Erzgebirgsstadion.
