FA CUP 3rd QUALIFYING ROUND REPLAY
WOKING 1 BRENTWOOD TOWN 0
Despite another great effort by the whole team, Brentwood's FA Cup run was finally ended by an 83rd minute goal by Woking's Ola Sogbanmu.
Brentwood were without their influential midfielder Danny Dafter but had Ellis Remy back from international duty in the Caribbean and he started up front with Anthony Ryan.
Blues were under pressure after seven minutes of the first half, surviving a series of dangerous crosses, most notably by Aswad Thomas from the left, and Moses Ademola from the right wing.
It looked a this point as though Brentwood might struggle to contain a lively Woking attack but they managed to get back in the game and started to have some good possession and created some chances. Ryan had a clear header at goal from a Ryan Doyle free kick in the fourteenth minute but his effort went over the bar, while Doyle had another clever cross palmed away by home keeper Andrew Little. In between those two efforts, Woking could have been ahead when the Blues defence was opened up by a fine move by the home side that put Francis Quarm through but he shot past Andy Hall onto the foot of a post.
Ryan was unlucky with an overhead kick that just dipped over the Woking crossbar and Brentwood reached half time knowing they were still very much in the cup tie.
Brentwood adjusted their system at the start of the second half with Nick Muir partnering Remy in attack and Ryan play on the left to help counter the threat of Woking’s Ricky Anane and Ademola.
It was another tough half for Blues but they continued to defend well and still had chances on the break. Muir set up Remy for a good shooting chance and when Dee Okojie’s skill won a corner, Ross Parmenter kick was headed wide by Darren Blewitt.
However, Woking were gradually getting closer and Andy Hall had to be in top form again. The breakthrough came late in the game when substitute Sogbanmu finished well from another right wing cross.
Brentwood Town: Hall, Doyle, Blewitt, Noel, Beale, Muir, Okojie (65), Parmenter, Remy, Green, Ryan (Elbi 90). Unused subs: Dafter, Stokes, Norcott, Sonuga, Pyne
