Kult & Punk: St Pauli show remarkable character

The boys are at home enjoying Easter in their own way, but a trip to Frankfurt first and a truly remarkable come back. It happens at this time of year.

FSV Frankfurt 3-3 FC St. Pauli

FC St. Pauli showed excellent character to battle back from three goals down and rescue an important point in the promotion race away to FSV Frankfurt.

In a dramatic first half at the Volksbank Stadion, hosts FSV were able to take advantage of three defensive errors by the guests to race into a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes. Marcel Gaus (7') turned well to finish for the opener, before Michael Görlitz doubled the advantage with a volley in acres of space on 17 minutes. Ilian Micanski (20') made it three soon after as Benedikt Pliquett spilled a header straight to him, but Marius Ebbers (23') pulled one back to restore the visitors' hope.

Red card consequential

The key turning point was Björn Schlicke's red card for a foul on Deniz Naki, which reduced the home side to ten men and enabled Max Kruse (40') to net his eleventh of the season from the spot and reduce the arrears to a single goal. The remarkable comeback was completed within a minute of the restart as Fin Bartels (46') raced away in space down the right before cutting in and slotting past the helpless Patric Klandt.

Andre Schubert's side had several chances to turn the game completely in the remainder of the second half but despite a flurry of chances late on, there was to be no further scoring and St. Pauli were made to make do with a single point. Die Kiezkicker are now just one behind Fortuna Düsseldorf and the solitary play-off place.
