Tapes Up: Diamonds Unceremoniously Dethrone Monarchs

Thank you to George English and the media team at Newcastle Diamonds Speedway, for providing the match report.

Diamonds Unceremoniously Dethrone Monarchs And Send Them Packing

Edinburgh Monarchs have an excellent record at Brough Park, but so far in 2012 their form has taken an alarming dip and over the first four races it certainly showed as their usual dominance was starkly missing.

They do however posses former Diamonds' skipper Derek Sneddon who remember the fast lines winning Heat One well in a shared 3-3, but the Worrall twins scored a fine maximum in the second, Steve taking the three and Richie second over a very a determined Charles Wright to move the score on to 8-4.

Richie Worrall took the win, and joined up front by a speedy Stuart Robson in Heat Four, with the reserve forcing his way under Craig Cook to double the difference to eight, 16-8.

Newcastle's great run of scoring continued and going into Heat Seven they were 25-11 up allowing the Monarchs to nominate Theo Pijper as a tactical ride for double points, and the Dutchman battled hard with Robson, the Newcastle Number Five who led the race until the last bend when Pijper came bombing under him to nab a six point haul in the 3-6, narrowing the score to 28-17.

A second tactical was then used in Heat Nine for Cook, and he too got involved in a superb battle, this time with Ludvig Lindgren, but it was the Newcastle man who came up trumps restricting the Monarch to four points in a shared 4-4, but the Diamonds were in control most of the way, although Lindgren's rather wild close to Heat 12 allowed Pijper an untroubled win taking the score to 46-31.

A solid 5-1 in Heat 14 ensured a fine home win and celebrations in the Worrall pit as Steve took a second three point of his season.

Team Manager George English said: "Whilst some of the top end struggled now and again, mainly with a lack of power from their engine, we had our number seven, Steve Worrall come into his own with two excellent confidence-boosting wins, and that can only bode well for the future."
