Baseball: Dragons Take Two From the Captains


The Dayton Dragons pitching staff continues to befuddle Lake County Captains hitters as the Dragons defeated the Captains 7-1 on Sunday. In the six games this half, the Captains have only been able to manage five runs, four earned against Dragons pitching.

The Dragons go out to an early lead when they scored four times in the bottom of the first inning with three of the runs coming home on a three run home run by Juan Duran, his 14th homer of the year. The Dragons added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on RBI singles by Jefry Sierra and Billy Hamilton with the third run scoring on an error and the Dragons led 7-0. The Captains lone run came in the top of the seventh and final inning on a ground out by Aaron Fields that scored LeVon Washington.

Captains starter Felix Sterling (2-3) took the loss working four innings allowing seven runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out three. Kyle Blair threw two scoreless innings of relief walking two.

Dragons starter Kyle Lotzkar (2-1) got the win pitching five scoreless innings allowing only one hit, walking two and striking out four. Drew Hayes closed out the game hurling the final two innings and allowing a run on two hits.
Prior to this game, the game that was suspended in Eastlake on August 9 was picked up in the top of the fourth inning with the Dragons leading 2-0. The Dragons would go on to win 9-2. Sterling who started the game in Eastlake took the loss for the Captains and Tanner Robles (5-8) got the win for the Dragons.

The Captains and Dragons will wrap up the season series on Monday at 7 PM on Sunday with the Captains sending LHP J.D. Riechenbach (6-1, 3.59) to the hill to oppose Dragons RHP Daniel Corcino (9-6, 3.41). The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.
The Captains return home for a four game series with Fort Wayne on Saturday August 20.
