Sol y Futbol: Lanzarote start new season with an away win!

You know we are heading towards the end of summer, when Ian Lane emails the 1st match report for season 2012/2013 from Arrecife. Our man from Lanzarote starts the 5th season of  Sports Pulse following UD Lanzarote with a report from the previous weekends opening fixtures. We will bring you yesterdays match report by Wednesday.

U.D. TIJARAFE   0   LANZAROTE   1

The Rojillos snatch a winner through Toñito two minutes from time and start this season exactly how they finished the previous campaign. It took until November last season for the first away win so to be the only club in this division to win on their travels in the opening game is a wonder start for Adolfo Pérez´s men.

From the first whistle the Lanzarote midfield began to dominate and create chances for their strikers. In the opening minutes Rosmen and Juancar both forced the La Palma keeper into action whilst Miguel Yunes spurned a great opportunity by failing to hit the target.

As the half progressed the possession for the home side also increased but the Lanzarote keeper was just a mere spectator as the Rojillo defence confidently dealt with anything Tijarafe were throwing at them. Despite the away sides superiority the score remained goalless at the end of the first half.

There wasn’t much change to the style of play early in the second half with the Rojillos dominating and the home side offering no threat whatsoever. Ten minutes into the second period and the Lanzarote manager Adolfo Pérez replaced Camacho with midfield playmaker Javi Batancort.

Midway through the second half the home side came close with their first strike of the evening but the ball narrowly missed the target, this reminded the Rojillos it was time to step up a gear.

The Rojillos were creating plenty of chances with Juancar and Miguel Yunes guilty of not putting away good moves.

Two minutes from time and a wonder pass by the Lanzarote captain and ex Real Madrid player Jotha sent Toñito away on a one on one with the La Palma goalkeeper. The sometimes brilliant but often temperamental winger kept his nerve and slotted the ball past the keeper into the left hand corner to give his side a deserved 0-1 lead.

The Rojillos comfortably saw out the remaining few minutes to record their first away victory of the season. Next up for the Rojillos is a home match this Sunday 2nd September confirmed at 12 noon versus Club Atlético Granadilla. The Tenerife side drew their opening match 1-1.
