Kult & Punk: Sadness at the Abandoned game

Over the season, we have been writing 'witties' about the beer and atmosphere of the club.  St Pauli are unusual in world football, not just German.  Our REAL fans are disciplines of left wing political beliefs, artists, and punk music lovers and a Bohemian nature veils the streets around the stadium. We are disgusted at the events that were witnessed on Friday night, and like our Manager apologize.  We love the game and the banter that surrounds this sport, we are proud of the carnival and quirky atmosphere that engulfs St Pauli games.  We do not condone this behaviour in anyway.  I hope the culprit is caught and the glad that no one was injured other than n the reputation of FC St Pauli.

Friday evening's match between FC St. Pauli and FC Schalke 04 was abandoned in the 88th minute after a full beaker of beer was thrown at assistant referee Thorsten Schiffner.

The incident occurred 90 seconds before the end of the match, which Schalke were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Raul (26')and Julian Draxler (66').

St. Pauli had been reduced to nine men through the dismissals of Jan-Philipp Kalla (68') and Fin Bartels (78') by the time referee Deniz Aytekin decided to ordered both players and officials off the field in the interests of safety.

'We had no choice'

"It's always sad to have to end a game like that," said Aytekin. "We didn't have a choice." His assistant had been hit on the back of the neck by a plastic cup full of beer, but was said to be unhurt. "Even in the first half the assistants were being hit by lighters and coins."

St. Pauli coach Holger Stanislawski took a dim view of the incident: "It's inexplicable. There can be no discussion over scenes like that. Things like that can't be allowed to happen in football stadiums. We swear on the bench and it can get heated on the field, but anyone throwing objects is endangering other people. I can only apologise in the name of FC St. Pauli."
