Kult & Punk: St Pauli lose at Greuther Fürth

The boys hopped into the VW Camper van and hit the road, completely forgetting the floor had been taking out to be repaired. With the challenge suffering another blip spirits were low, very low. So to Zoe's Bar they fell, to numb the pain and ready themselves for next weekend. In the meantime with the Darts team languishing mid-table and with two tricky away rounds this week, the sporting world looks pretty bleak to the lads.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2-1 FC St. Pauli

Greuther Fürth have all but guaranteed themselves a place in Germany's top flight next season after tactically outclassing FC St. Pauli, whose limp performance was a further setback in their own pursuit of promotion.

Fürth enjoyed the more promising start and had a lot of joy on the left with Sercan Serarer and Heinrich Schmidtgal, the latter of which opened the scoring after just six minutes. The left-back burst into the box to get the crucial touch on Stephan Fürstner's square ball as his effort sailed into the top corner past a stranded Philipp Tschauner. Greuther continued to dominate proceedings and by closing down the space successfully denied Pauli the opportunity to engineer a foothold in the game.

Asamoah comes up trumps against ex-club

The visitors began settling into the game yet struggled to cause Fürth's backline any problems with their forward movements. Schmidtgal and Edgar Prib both flashed efforts wide of the target, but a second goal was not forthcoming with both teams unwilling to take risks in a tactically-minded first half. Pauli came out of the changing rooms with purpose and almost grabbed an early equaliser. Dennis Daube dribbled his way past three Fürth defenders before finding Denis Naki at the far post, who having brought ball down could only hit his effort straight at Max Grün.

The match became increasingly intense as time wore on, but having had two penalty appeals turned down Greuther were finally able to extend their lead. Gerald Asamoah peeled off his man to head Schmidtgal's corner past Tschauner, who despite his best efforts could not prevent the ball crossing the line. Two goals to the good Fürth were in complete control, however after Asamoah went close to adding a second against his former club, Pauli pulled a goal back late on. Mahir Saglik poked home from a corner to create a nervous ending, but it was too little too late from the visitors.
